As we close out the year, I wanted to provide an update on the Washington State University Beta house and the successes of the young Beta men living there.
This has been a great year for our Gamma Theta chapter. Membership, morale, and leadership remain strong in the house due to the positive leadership of President Pedro Gutierrez and the 22 young brothers who serve on the chapter’s executive officers’ board (E-Board).
From the advisor’s team’s perspective, this was a year of steady and productive collaboration. Advisors remained actively involved in supporting academics, maintaining the house’s physical upkeep and repair, Beta recruitment of over 30 young men, house operations, risk management, and Beta ritual. The young men of Gamma Theta have been open to feedback from our advisory team and have sought guidance when needed. This partnership among advisors, the Gamma Delta Building Association, and undergraduate Beta members has been instrumental in driving landmark success for Gamma Theta in 2025.
Those successes include Gamma Theta’s recognition of excellence by both WSU and at a national level by the Beta Theta Pi general fraternity. This year, the undergraduate men of Gamma Theta were honored by the WSU Center for Fraternity and Sorority Life with the Three Star Arete award, signifying recognition as one of the top five fraternities at WSU. This achievement reflects Gamma Theta’s unwavering commitment to excellence and the meaningful impact that the Beta house has had among its WSU peers. Gamma Theta’s three-star rating was awarded for risk management education and prevention, chapter operations, and academic achievement, holding an overall house GPA of 3.3.
At the national level, Gamma Theta chapter was awarded the Beta Theta Pi Virginia Tech Academic Excellence award, being recognized as a top academic chapter among all Beta chapters across the general fraternity, and the Francis S. Sisson award for overall chapter excellence among Beta chapters; the second highest award that Beta Theta Pi presents, and one which Gamma Theta has received twice in the past, including last year.
Ultimately and most significantly, Gamma Theta was presented, for the first time in its chapter history, the John Reily Knox Award, the highest award for excellence that the Beta Theta Pi general fraternity offers. Of the over 130 chapters in our fraternity, Gamma Theta was one of 22 to receive this year’s Beta Theta Pi Knox award.
Financially, the chapter remains stable, and the house continues to be well managed. Maintaining a strong focus on safety, upkeep, and long-term planning will remain essential. However, we still carry a $1 million capital improvement loan that will require continued gift donations, with the goal of fully paying it off by 2029.
Our relationships with alumni continue to strengthen through this digital newsletter, and our partnerships with the House Corporation, WSU Fraternity and Sorority Life, and the General Fraternity remain strong. Collaboration with these partners has been a key factor in the Gamma Theta’s success.
As we look ahead, the advisor team’s recommendations are straightforward:
Strengthen academic excellence
Elevate recruitment planning
Reinforce accountability and Beta standards
Continue developing leaders through training, resources, and leadership experiences
If we commit to these priorities, next year will be even more successful.
To the outgoing officers, thank you for your leadership, service, and commitment to making Gamma Theta a top chapter in our nation. To the newly elected leaders, you have our advisory team’s full support and confidence. To our volunteer advisory team, I thank each of you, brothers, for your time and commitment in supporting the success of the young men at Gamma Theta. And to every member, continue living the principles that make Beta Theta Pi not just a fraternity, but a lifelong commitment to personal growth and brotherhood.
Thank you all for your hard work. It is an honor to serve as Gamma Theta’s chapter advisor, and I look forward to an even more successful year in 2026.

Robert Monroe
